Coin Necklace

I made this necklace the other day. It is the first "real" piece of jewelry I've made in a long time.

It turned out quite different than the image I had in mind, but I think it looks pretty good. I'm not really happy with this photo though. I think the way the necklace is laid out looks kind of "forced".

Here it is on my mannequin Svetlana. I had a real heck of a time trying to photograph the necklace on her. I dragged her all over the house trying to get a good light source, but no matter what, the images came out grainy. I probably need to do some fiddling with the settings on my camera.

I don't know yet if I am going to sell this piece. I think I'm going to wear it around for awhile before I decide.

What do you think? Do you have any suggestions on how I could photograph it better? I'd like to hear them.

Musical Interlude

I was going to post pictures of something I made today, but it is too overcast to take good photos. So, in the meantime, please enjoy this musical interlude.

I'll be back tomorrow with photos!

New Treasures

Most of you have probably heard of Tinsel Trading in New York city. It is a fantastic shop jam packed full of new and vintage ribbons, trims, millinery supplies, jewelry supplies, and all kinds of interesting stuff. My sister was lucky enough to go there last week during a visit to New York. I gave her my antiquing budget for the week (plus a little extra) for her to spend there for me. Here is what she got:

First, are these neat little Italian moths:

They are made of a silky raffia-type material. Four of them came in a little cellophane bag.

Then there are the cabochons:

These square ones look like late 1800's Aesthetic Movement to me, but I don't think they are quite that old.

These ones have some really pretty darkening of color around the edges that make them look like tarnished boullion appliques, but they are made of glass.

Then there are the appliques:

Three colors of cute little flowers that will become parts of some earring designs in the future.

And these:

Beautiful old boullion tassels in shades of copper and bronze. These will also become parts of jewelry at some point.

I am so thrilled with all my little treasures, and I hope I can go to Tinsel Trading someday myself and pick up a few more!

New Inspiration Kit

I just added this new inspiration kit to my fancylinda Etsy shop.

It is a vintage toleware powder tin full of perfectly coordinated vintage ingredients for inspiration and crafting.

All of the items are vintage. Have I said the word "vintage" enough yet? I especially love the little paper fan. I was lucky enough to get a dozen of them awhile back, and they will be appearing in more kits to come in the near future.

I hope you are having a happy Labor Day!
